Cape Elizabeth Community Services, the School Department, and Cape Hoops have collaborated to offer a range of basketball opportunities at the elementary and middle school levels designed to broaden playing experiences, meet kids at their current skill levels, and accommodate family lifestyles. (Cape Hoops is a newly formed volunteer-led non-profit organization dedicated to expanding youth basketball programming in Cape Elizabeth.) The offerings include Skills, Rec Travel, Club Travel, and Middle School basketball (for 7th and 8th graders only). These are detailed in the accompanying breakdown by grade, which includes specifics of each offering, along with sign-up/registration links.
OVERVIEW
- SATURDAY AM SKILLS/DRILLS: Community Services offers skill clinics for players in Grades 3-6 on Saturday mornings. These sessions focus on fundamental skill development and rules, run by our high school varsity basketball coaches and players.
- CECS REC TRAVEL PROGRAM: Our Rec Travel program is an inclusive recreational basketball league for players of all skill levels. This program provides an opportunity for all kids to play and develop with their friends. There will be two developmental practices during the week at school and one or two games on the weekend (depending on grade level). Grades 3 and 4 will play two games at Falmouth High School on Sundays (girls’ games in the morning, boys’ games in the afternoon). Grades 5 and 6 will play one game on Saturdays at Cape Elizabeth, South Portland, or Scarborough. We anticipate having this schedule by mid-November. Grades 7 and 8 will look to have one practice per week and play one game on Tuesdays in South Portland.
- MHL CLUB TRAVEL PROGRAM: Cape Hoops will sponsor teams playing in the Maine Hoops Club Travel league. This is a competitive league, limited to one team per grade level (3/4, 5, 6, 7, and 8) with a minimum of 8 and a maximum of 10 players. Assessments will be conducted if more than 10 players register for a given grade. Practices will be held in South Portland, and game locations and days will vary (Friday nights through Sundays).
- MIDDLE SCHOOL BASKETBALL PROGRAM: Cape Middle School will offer a basketball program for 7th and 8th graders. Practices are generally Monday through Thursday (with some Fridays), and games are played during the week at Cape Elizabeth or away (with busing provided for away games). Sign-ups will be announced by the school closer to the season.
